Opening on Friday

Looks like all is a go for opening Eagle River this Friday, May 2. Been actively doing walk throughs of the other campgrounds and they are looking good for a Mothers Day weekend opening.

In other news, the Eklutna Challenge is starting to fill, so if you want to get involved, sign up now http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1566096

There is still ice on Eklutna Lake, boats will get out there soon after Mothers Day weekend, on that weekend they will be at the Sea Kayaking Symposium held at APU. This is a great place to learn the basic skills, try out some boats and do some summer trip planning.

Campground Openings(barring May snowstorms!)

Well so much for my best laid plans. Roads were being cleared of their winter debris, picnic tables were being painted and well it was starting to look something like spring. What a difference a day makes! It looks more like a Norman Rockwell New England winter scene than even an Alaska spring. Oh Well Eagle River Campground will open at noon on Friday May 2nd. Meanwhile in the valley Finger Lake and Kepler Bradley are open with Big Lake North opening on May 9th and Big Lake South, Rocky Lake and King Mountain opening on May 16th.

For everyone joining us at Eagle River we will start 2008 without water for rv fillups. We will have a tank for drinking water and the state plans to work on the water this year.
